The PCS Quiz Bowl program continued a strong and competitive season this year, fielding both junior high and high school teams that participated in a mix of online and in-person tournaments. Their consistent performances across events earned all PCS teams qualification for a national tournament in Birmingham, a significant achievement that reflects the depth and dedication of the program.
Highlighting an already impressive season, the Varsity A Team also qualified for and competed in the highly competitive NAQT National Tournament in Chicago this past weekend. Their invitation came on the heels of outstanding results at regional competitions, where PCS players regularly stood out among top competitors from across the state.
Individual accomplishments played a major role in the teams’ success throughout the season. At the Lafayette Junior High Invitational Tournament, eighth grader Mason Zheng was recognized as a top scorer. At the Lafayette High School Invitational Tournament, Anne Faulkner Rogers earned distinction as the top-scoring ninth grader, while senior Sims Conrad finished as the third-highest overall scorer in the field.
The varsity team continued its momentum by winning the NAQT Mississippi State Invitational Tournament, where Sims Conrad once again led the field as the individual high scorer. At the Mississippi State NAQT Championship Tournament, the Varsity A Team secured a third-place finish. Junior Heidi Zheng was recognized as a top scorer, and ninth grader Colon McKenzie earned “Rising Star” honors for his performance.
The success of the PCS Quiz Bowl program reflects not only the hard work and talent of its students but also the leadership of sponsors Norman and Annette Rowe, who have guided the teams throughout a remarkable season.
