Presbyterian Christian School attended only its second-ever Mississippi Scholastic Press Association Convention in Oxford and returned home with four state-wide awards in the newspaper division.
The Shield, PCS’s student newspaper, was represented by editor Hannah Hudson, a junior, and sports editor Shepard Brumfield, a sophomore.
Hudson took home the overall state winner title in the feature photo category for her image captured at a school pep rally. MSPA judges praised the photo for its “use of layers, humor and storytelling.” She was also named a state finalist for her feature story on Mrs. Betty Sugg.

Brumfield earned the overall state winner title in sports page design, with judges recognizing the work as “clean, not overly busy” with “good use of color, consistent fonts, margins and borders” and appropriately placed photos. He was also a finalist for his sports photo of a header during a Bobcat soccer game.

The Mississippi Scholastic Press Association has been helping students share their stories since 1947. For more information about the awards, visit mississippischolasticpress.com.
