Presbyterian Christian School (PCS) held its inaugural induction ceremony for its newly reestablished chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, on March 19, 2026. The ceremony honored students who demonstrated exceptional academic achievement in mathematics and met rigorous membership criteria.
Mu Alpha Theta is a nationally recognized organization with more than 100,000 student members across more than 2,500 chapters in the United States and internationally. Membership is widely regarded by colleges and universities as a meaningful indicator of a student’s mathematical ability and academic dedication.
The ceremony was hosted by Dr. Ketih Rice, Assistant Head of School for Academics, and featured remarks from chapter sponsors Mrs. Jennifer Taylor and Mr. Trevor Dunn. Student Body Chaplain Whit Alderson opened the event with prayer. Chapter officers were introduced and recognized during the ceremony, including President Bradley Graham, Vice President Julianne Jordan, Secretary Elizabeth Gatlin, and Treasurer Emma Kathryn Johnson.
Inductees were required to meet stringent eligibility standards, including sophomore, junior, or senior standing; a minimum overall academic average of 90; a minimum mathematics average of 93 across all college preparatory math courses from Algebra I and above; current enrollment in a college preparatory or dual credit math course; and a clean disciplinary record for the prior academic year.
“Math is all around us and impacts our daily lives in countless ways. Mu Alpha Theta strives to inspire a keen interest in mathematics, develop strong scholarship in the subject, and promote the enjoyment of mathematics,” said Mrs. Taylor, chapter sponsor. “I encourage you to seek out the benefits of Mu Alpha Theta and make the most of your time as a member in this chapter.”
During the induction, students were presented with membership certificates by Dr. Rice and Mrs. Taylor and formally pledged their commitment to the organization. Dr. Rice offered special congratulations to senior inductees as they prepare to graduate, and challenged underclassmen to pursue active leadership and service within the chapter.
Membership in Mu Alpha Theta provides students access to mathematics competitions, an annual National Convention, grants, scholarships, and networking opportunities. The PCS chapter has been reestablished after a multi-year hiatus, marking a welcome return of the program to the school’s academic offerings.
