Presbyterian Christian School is proud to recognize Dr. Thompson Liddell, Class of 2004, as the 2026 Alumnus of the Year. A dedicated physician, community leader, husband, father, and servant of Christ, Thompson has carried the lessons he learned at PCS into a life marked by excellence, service, and faith.
During his time at PCS, Thompson distinguished himself both in the classroom and through extracurricular activities. A National Merit Scholar, he served as captain of the soccer team, was a member of the inaugural tennis team, played on the inaugural JV football team, and participated in Quiz Bowl. His love of science, first nurtured by PCS teachers, ultimately helped guide him toward a career in medicine.
After graduating from PCS, Thompson went on to attend The University of Southern Mississippi before earning his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at UMMC before completing a fellowship in infectious diseases.
Today, Dr. Liddell serves as an Infectious Diseases physician with Hattiesburg Clinic, where he diagnoses and treats patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings. At Forrest General Hospital, he serves as Director of Infection Prevention and Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship and is involved in multiple hospital committees. He also serves on the Hattiesburg Clinic Board of Directors and manages HIV care at SeMRHI Family Health Center. His professional philosophy reflects his commitment to the community: “I love to provide for people. I want to be able to offer something to my community,” Liddell states.
Thompson’s expertise became particularly significant during the COVID-19 pandemic. He served as a consultant on COVID-19 response efforts for numerous schools and businesses, including Presbyterian Christian School, Sanderson Farms, and the American Medical Association. He also diagnosed the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Mississippi.
While his professional accomplishments are impressive, Thompson’s commitment to serving others extends far beyond medicine. He serves as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg and teaches fifth- and sixth-grade boys on Wednesday nights. He also coaches youth baseball and soccer and serves on the Board of the Hope Clinic, a Christian-based pregnancy resource center that supports young men and women in the community.
When reflecting on his time at PCS, Thompson was quick to recognize the lasting influence of his teachers and the school’s mission. He shared that each of his teachers helped shape him to “know and serve The Lord,” and he credited then-principal Mr. Griffith with consistently keeping the mission of PCS centered on serving Christ.
He also remembered the individual teachers who helped shape his academic interests and character—from Mrs. Jussely encouraging his love of reading, to Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Sugg cultivating his appreciation for literature and writing, to Mrs. Wheat and Coach Smith introducing him to the sciences that would eventually shape his career. He recalled Mr. Rowe making learning fun through Quiz Bowl and Mr. Daniels using calculus to teach lessons in discipleship.
Thompson’s connection to the school continues today as a father of four Bobcats. His children, Hinton (8th grade), Leighton (7th grade), Emily (4th grade), and Lucas (1st grade), are carrying on the Liddell family legacy at PCS.
The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes PCS graduates whose achievements reflect the spirit and mission of Presbyterian Christian School. Dr. Thompson Liddell’s career of medical excellence, community leadership, Christian service, and dedication to others makes him a fitting recipient of this honor and an example of the lasting impact a Bobcat can have in his community and beyond. In addition to being named Alumnus of the Year, Dr. Liddell will also be inducted into the inaugural PCS Hall of Fame class during the 50th Year Celebration Night at Southern Oaks on October 1st.
